Custom Prize Drop Board

Drop a disc, watch it bounce through the pegs, and wait to see which slot it lands in. That’s the whole mechanic, and it’s why people line up to play it before you’ve said a word about what’s at stake.

We build a clean, tabletop-scale version of that game in Baltic birch, engraved with whatever you put on it: your company name, an event name, custom slot labels. It arrives ready to play.

What we need from you: the header text you want at the top, the labels for each slot at the bottom, and whether you want to add a logo.

The board

The base is ¾-inch Baltic birch: void-free plies, smooth on both sides. We build with birch because it machines cleanly and the laser engraving reads well against the warm surface. The pegs are solid hardwood dowels, press-fit into drilled holes in a tested pattern that keeps disc distribution consistent across the board.

The slot dividers at the bottom are also precision CO2 laser-cut birch, assembled and glued. They’re fixed at seven slots, not adjustable, with the labels you specify engraved into each divider face.

The whole board gets two coats of satin lacquer after assembly: durable enough to wipe down between events, clear enough that the wood grain still comes through. This finish differs from the natural oil we use on our decorative signs. A game board that gets passed around a room needs to hold up to repeated handling.

What gets engraved

The header text can be your name, event name, company name, or any short phrase up to 30 characters, engraved in a clean block above the peg field. We size the text to fill the header area without crowding.

Below that, seven slots get seven labels engraved into the bottom of each divider. Common choices are prize tiers (Grand Prize, Second Prize, Try Again), point values (100, 50, 25, 10, 25, 50, 100), or your own words: product names, custom prompts, whatever fits the event. Tell us the seven labels in order from left to right.

If you’d rather use a logo, add the logo tier and we’ll engrave your file at the top of the board in place of plain text. Send it as an SVG or high-resolution PNG after ordering, and we’ll confirm it holds up at engraving size before we cut. A vector logo cuts a crisper line than a raster one; raster is fine too, we’ll check first whether it needs cleanup.

Dimensions and setup

The board is approximately 16 inches wide and 24 inches tall. A built-in kickstand on the back lets it stand on its own. No additional stand needed for tabletop use. If you need it mounted to a booth wall or a freestanding display frame, that’s a different setup. Message us first.

The discs players drop are included, two per board. They’re ¾-inch hardwood, smooth-sanded, sized to travel cleanly through the peg field without getting stuck.

Production and shipping

Personalized graphics need a layout proof before they touch the laser, so this board’s timeline runs a little longer than our sign work. Here’s the sequence:

Within 24 hours of payment: We send you a layout proof showing the header text, peg layout, and slot labels as they’ll appear on the board. Give us the go-ahead or flag changes. The board isn’t cut until you approve what you see.

Days 1–3: The base plate, peg holes, slot dividers, and header all come off the laser in the same session, with header text and slot labels engraved at 1.5mm depth into the birch. Every piece gets hand-sanded before assembly: 120-grit to remove laser char, 220-grit on the face surface, 320-grit on cut edges.

Days 3–4: Assembly: pegs set, dividers glued and clamped, kickstand attached.

Days 4–5: Finish coats applied and curing.

Days 5–7: Package and ship. This is a larger item, so it ships in a double-walled box with corner protection. USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground depending on size.

Events this works well for

Trade show booths get a reason for people to stop and a built-in conversation starter. At school carnivals and fundraisers it’s ready to play the moment it’s unboxed, no volunteer training required. Corporate events and team outings work well too. The slot labels can be anything from prizes to dares to tasks. Wedding receptions let guests play for seating assignments or table prizes. Birthday parties are always in.

The game takes about 10 seconds per player, so the line keeps moving even at a packed event.

Custom sizes and rush timelines

The first time we built a prize drop board, we ran about forty test drops before the peg pattern felt right, adjusting spacing until the disc traveled long enough to build suspense and never wedged or sat still. We landed on Baltic birch after testing MDF and pine: it's void-free, takes the laser engraving without scorching, and the warm, even face makes your text read from across the room. We still build every order the same way, a proof first, then the cut, then two coats of satin lacquer so it holds up to a room full of hands.

Once your text is approved, the laser engraves the board and cuts the pegs, and then the assembly starts: each peg is seated by hand and checked for square, because a single leaning peg changes how the disc bounces. We sand the board face, the slot edges, and every peg before finishing, since this is a piece people crowd around and touch all night.

The satin lacquer goes on in two coats with a light sanding between them, which gives the surface enough slip for the disc to travel cleanly and enough durability to survive being carried to the next party. The last thing we do before boxing a board is play it: a handful of real drops down different slots, listening for the right rattle and watching that the disc lands where a disc should be able to land. If it doesn't feel fun on the bench, it doesn't ship.
