The nervous part is typing a name that gets burned into wood. You will see exactly how it looks before anything runs, and if the spacing or the font is not right, we change it then.

Want this piece changed?

Tell me what you're thinking for this design: a different name, a different size, new wording. I'll come back with options. Starting from scratch instead? The design builder walks through that one.

Questions before you order? Our common questions cover proofs and personalization, and shipping timelines walk through what happens after checkout. Want a piece that isn't in the shop at all? Design your own sign from scratch in the builder.

Cut and finished by hand, to your order

We start from a bought bamboo cutting board blank, rounded corners, clean single-face grain, and engrave it with a family name inside a wreath of kitchen line art: a rolling pin, a chef’s hat, a whisk, a teacup, and herb sprigs. It’s the simplest piece we build, and the one that gets used the most.

We start engraving within 24 hours of your order. Ships in 3–5 business days.

What we need from you: the family name, and an established date if you want one.

A housewarming gift that earns counter space

Most housewarming gifts land in a drawer. A candle burns down. A framed print goes into a closet until someone finds a wall for it. A cutting board doesn’t have that problem, it sits on the counter, and it gets pulled out most days whether there’s a dinner party coming or not.

That’s the case for this board over the occasion pieces in the shop. Our rolling pin is the item someone reaches for on a baking day, a few times a month at most. This board is the everyday one. Together they read as a set without us building anything new to sell them that way, the same kitchen-gift instinct, two different rhythms of use.

If you’re choosing between the two, or shopping for both, the board is the lower-commitment first purchase and the rolling pin is the one you add once you know the household bakes.

The engraving

We lay the family name out in outline block caps, centered, then wrap it in a wreath of small kitchen icons: a rolling pin, a chef’s hat, a whisk, a teacup, herb sprigs. The wreath is fixed, the name is what changes, which is what lets us keep the layout consistent from board to board while every one still carries a different name.

The laser runs a single depth across the whole design, wreath and lettering both, so nothing in the ring reads heavier or lighter than the rest. We also engrave a small maker’s mark on the back edge. It takes seconds and it’s easy to skip. We don’t skip it, because it’s the detail that tells you a person made this, not a machine that stamped a name onto a blank.

Why we oil it after engraving

Laser engraving leaves the cut lines dry and pale against the surrounding wood, right off the machine. We wipe the whole board down with food-safe mineral oil once the engraving is done, and that single step is what darkens the lines and evens the color across the board. Skip it and the engraving looks unfinished even when the cutting itself is clean, it’s the corner most likely to get cut in this category, and we don’t cut it.

Personalization

Send us the family name at checkout, up to 20 characters, and an established date if you want one added below the wreath. The wreath layout is fixed, so there’s no design decision to make beyond the name and the date, this is the fastest personalization we offer because there’s no custom art to lay out from scratch.

If a name runs long, message us before you order and we’ll confirm it fits the layout cleanly before the laser runs.

What happens after you order

Within 24 hours: layout. We set your family name into the wreath template and check the letter spacing against the board’s width.

Engraving. One laser pass at a single depth across the wreath and the lettering, plus the maker’s mark on the back edge.

Oil and buff. We wipe the whole board with food-safe mineral oil, let it sit, then buff off the excess. This is what darkens and evens the engraving.

Pack and ship. The board goes out in 3–5 business days from order, USPS Priority Mail with tracking.

Care

Hand wash only, and dry it right away, don’t leave it standing in a sink or a wet rack. Never run it through a dishwasher: the heat and the standing water are what cause bamboo to split, and a split board isn’t a defect in the making, it’s what happens to any bamboo board that goes through one.

About once a month, or sooner if the surface starts to look dry or feel rough, rub in a little food-safe mineral oil, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe off what’s left. That keeps the bamboo from drying out and keeps the engraving reading dark and clear instead of fading with wear. It’s the same care routine as any wood or bamboo kitchen board, nothing specific to the engraving beyond keeping water off it.

Keep it away from the stovetop and out of long stretches of direct sun. A board that’s hand washed and oiled on schedule holds up for years. The fastest way to shorten its life is the dishwasher.

For general engraved-wood upkeep beyond this board, our wood sign cleaning guide covers the same oil-and-dry approach across the rest of the shop.

This is the simplest board we build, and that's by design. We start from a bought bamboo blank with rounded corners and a clean single-face grain, so nothing here is cut from scratch. What takes the time is the layout: we set a family name in outline block caps at the center, then wrap it in a wreath of small kitchen icons, a rolling pin, a chef's hat, a whisk, a teacup, herb sprigs. That wreath is what makes the whole piece read as one design instead of a name stamped onto a blank board.

The laser runs a single depth for the whole wreath and the lettering, which keeps every line the same weight from the rolling pin at the top to the last herb sprig at the bottom. Laser engraving leaves the cut lines dry and slightly pale against the surrounding bamboo, so after engraving we wipe the whole board with food-safe mineral oil. That's the step that darkens the engraving and brings the wood color back even, and skipping it is the easiest way to leave a board looking half-finished.

Last, we engrave a small maker's mark on the back edge. It takes little effort and makes a real difference: it's the detail that tells a buyer the piece was made by someone, not printed by a machine. We start engraving within 24 hours of your order, and it ships in 3–5 business days.

Common questions

What is the Personalized Bamboo Cutting Board?

The Personalized Bamboo Cutting Board is a bamboo board, approx. 13 inches wide and 8.5 inches tall, with rounded corners and a single-face grain. It costs $34.00. We laser-engrave a family name in outline block caps inside a wreath of kitchen line art: a rolling pin, chef's hat, whisk, teacup, and herb sprigs, and we add a small maker's mark on the back edge so the piece feels finished on both sides. The board arrives factory-finished, and we wipe it with food-safe mineral oil after engraving, which darkens and evens the cut lines. Care is simple but not optional: hand wash it, never run it through a dishwasher, and re-oil it about once a month to keep the bamboo from drying out and splitting. You send us the name and, if you want it, an established date. We start engraving within 24 hours of your order and it ships in 3 to 5 business days.

What material is the Personalized Bamboo Cutting Board made from?

The Personalized Bamboo Cutting Board is handcrafted from Bamboo, single-face grain board blank. Finished with Factory finish, re-oiled with food-safe mineral oil after engraving.

How long does it take to make and ship my order?

We start engraving within 24 hours of your order. Production and shipping typically takes 3–5 business days.

What information do I need to provide when ordering?

When you order, you will provide: Family name to engrave, Established date (optional). We confirm your details and send a free digital proof within 24 hours so you can approve it before we start cutting.

How do I care for my wood sign?

Hand wash only, and dry it right away. Never put it in the dishwasher, soaking and heat cycles are what cause bamboo to split. Re-oil it with food-safe mineral oil about once a month, more often if the surface starts to look dry or feel rough.

What is your return policy for personalized items?

Because each piece is made to order with your personalization, we cannot accept returns for a change of mind. If your order arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we will replace it or refund you in full.

What happens if the engraving has a mistake?

You approve a free digital proof within 24 hours before we cut, which catches almost every mistake before production. If a piece is still engraved wrong and the error is ours, we remake it free — covered by the 30-day make-it-right guarantee.

Can this go in the dishwasher?

No. Bamboo splits with dishwasher heat and standing water. Hand wash it, dry it right away, and rub in a little food-safe mineral oil about once a month to keep it from drying out.

Is this meant for actual cutting, or is it decorative?

It's a working board. The engraving sits on the surface of the wreath and name, not across the whole cutting area, so it holds up to normal use. Treat it like any wood board: hand wash and keep it oiled.

What if I want a date along with the name?

You can add an established date at checkout alongside the family name. We fit it into the layout below the wreath so the design stays balanced.

How is this different from the personalized rolling pin?

The [rolling pin](/products/personalized-rolling-pin/) is the piece people reach for on a baking day. This board sits out and gets used every day, which makes the two a natural pair for a housewarming gift or a new kitchen.
