Farmhouse Kitchen Gifts

We lean toward the quieter side of farmhouse: bare wood instead of paint, matte instead of gloss, and muted greens like sage and basil around it. Three of the four pieces here are already that: the mountain name sign in Baltic birch, natural or walnut-stained under a matte oil; the rolling pin in solid wood under mineral oil and beeswax; the bamboo board re-oiled after engraving. None of the three carries a gloss coat. The zodiac wall art is the exception, its contrast layers hand-painted over the birch, so it brings colour rather than staying with the bare wood. We don't paint anything green. Bare wood beside a muted green is the pairing the look is built on, and the wood is the half we make.

Nothing here is MDF and nothing carries a printed wood-look film, so the grain runs through the piece rather than over it. Three of the four are Baltic birch or solid wood; the board is bamboo, the one material on this page that isn't a hardwood and the one that takes a knife best. Every name and motif is engraved into the surface rather than printed onto it, so the engraving itself cannot peel.

The bamboo cutting board is the piece a kitchen uses daily. It runs about 13 inches wide and 8.5 tall, with a family name engraved in outline block caps inside a wreath of kitchen line art: a rolling pin, a whisk, a teacup, herb sprigs. We wipe it with food-safe mineral oil after engraving, which darkens and evens the cut lines. Hand wash it, keep it out of the dishwasher, and re-oil it about once a month so the bamboo doesn't dry out.

The rolling pin is turned from one length of solid wood, about 19.5 inches long, barrel and both handle knobs in a single piece. That is the older way of making one: a solid barrel where a modern pin has a dowel rod, sleeve, and bearings that loosen, and no glue joint to open up in the wash. The name engraves shallow on purpose, deep enough to read against the grain and never deep enough to catch on dough.

The mountain name sign and the zodiac wall art sit on this page because they suit a farmhouse kitchen wall, not because they were designed for one. The mountain sign is a round, layered piece with a ridge line and pines above a raised name banner; walnut-stained it goes dark, left natural it stays pale and reads lighter against white or cream cabinets. Both versions are cut from the same layers, so the wood is what changes the mood. The zodiac piece is layered birch with hand-painted faces, and it does better on a wall away from the stove and the sink than directly above them.

Ship times differ by piece, and each product card above carries its own. The cutting board, the rolling pin and the mountain name sign leave our Denver studio in 3-5 business days. The zodiac wall art takes 5-7, because its layers are assembled and finished by hand. Both wall pieces arrive with a sawtooth hanger fitted to the back, so you only need a nail. Care differs too: a dry cloth for the wall pieces, and hand washing plus a wipe of food-safe mineral oil for the board and the rolling pin, about monthly for the board and every few months for the pin.
