Safari Nursery Closet Dividers

Every tag gets its own animal, so the closet sorts itself. Each one is Baltic birch, precision CO2 laser-engraved with a label in script and one animal beneath it. Ten tags, ten different animals, no repeats:

Learn the animals once and you never have to read a label again, and neither does whoever else handles laundry duty.

The giraffe is the eleventh animal, and it is on every tag. Its head and neck form the top of each piece, curving over into the open hook that drops onto the rod. That shared top is what makes ten separate tags read as one set once the rod is full.

The hook fits standard nursery closet rods, wood or metal. Slide them along when you’re resorting clothes. They stay put the rest of the time. No clips, no ribbon, nothing extra to lose.

The set is all ten tags for $25.00. Seven size bands from Newborn through 18–24 Months, plus Sleepers, Swaddles and Outerwear for the things that never sorted by size anyway.

The material

Baltic birch is what we reach for whenever a piece needs to stay light but hold fine detail. It’s a hardwood plywood, layered cross-grain for warp resistance, with a warm, even face the laser engraves cleanly into. The animals and size labels read sharp against the honey tone of the natural wood, no paint, no stain, just the wood and the mark the laser leaves behind.

After engraving, we hand-sand each piece through three passes: 120-grit to remove laser residue, 220-grit for the face surface, 320-grit around the hook curve. Then we finish with two thin coats of natural satin lacquer. The lacquer protects against moisture and makes the surface wipe-clean with a damp cloth. Nursery life is a wet business. These are finished for it.

Each tag is ¼ inch thick: light enough that all ten on the rod add no noticeable weight, rigid enough that they hang flat without curling.

The animals

We picked the animal set for variety and recognizability, shapes distinct enough that you won’t mix up a lion cub for a leopard cub while moving fast at 6 a.m. Each one is engraved as a clean outline illustration, no fill, consistent line weight across the set, so the whole run looks like one cohesive collection once the rod is full.

The label sits above each animal in a flowing script, cut in the same engraving pass, same depth, same clean edge. Everything on one face. The back is smooth, unfinished birch.

What we need from you

Nothing, and that is deliberate. The set ships complete, all ten tags, with the animal assignments fixed so each piece has meaning beyond a generic label. If you want a different animal pairing or a name engraved on one of the tags, message us before ordering and we’ll work out a custom quote.

A note on sizing labels

The sizes we use match standard US infant and toddler sizing conventions:

• Newborn: up to ~8 lbs
• 0–3 Months
• 3–6 Months
• 6–9 Months
• 9–12 Months
• 12–18 Months
• 18–24 Months

The set stops at 24 months. There is no 2T or 3T tag, because the range these cover is the stretch where sizes change every few weeks and a sorted rod actually saves you something. By the time a child is in 2T, one drawer usually holds a season.

Three more tags carry no size at all: Sleepers, Swaddles, and Outerwear. Those are the piles that never sorted by month in the first place.

What happens after you order

We make each set from scratch, all ten tags cut and finished together as one run.

Day 1: Layout and cut. We lay out the labels and animals in the laser software, then cut the full set of ten in a single session so the line weight and script stay identical across every tag.

Day 1–2: Individual sanding. Each tag is hand-sanded on its own, not as a stack: 120-grit to clear laser residue, 220-grit for the face, 320-grit around the hook curve, so every hook seats smoothly on a rod.

Day 2–3: Satin lacquer. Two thin coats, full cure between them. That’s what makes the set wipe-clean once it’s hanging in daily use.

Day 3–4: Bench check and pack. We hang each tag on a rod to confirm the hook seats and nothing wobbles, lay the full run out to check every animal and label came out clean, then stack the set in sequence and box it with a card showing which animal matches which size.

Day 4–5: Ship. The set is small enough to ship First Class with tracking. We start within 24 hours of your order, and the full production-to-ship timeline is 3–5 business days. We’ll send a shipping notification with tracking when the box goes out.

As a baby shower gift

A note on care and durability

These dividers are built to survive the nursery. Birch is dense and wipe-clean, and the satin lacquer finish shrugs off sticky fingers and juice spills, day after day. The lacquer itself is non-toxic once cured, fine for a curious baby to touch or mouth.

If the dividers ever need refreshing after years of use, the lacquer can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and a mild soap. The engraved animals and labels won’t wear off: laser engraving is permanent, part of the wood itself.

The hook that holds the rod won’t widen or warp. Birch’s cross-grain plywood construction resists the kind of movement that would loosen the fit over time. The dividers stay stable through the full two-year run.

A note on gifting multiple sizes

Some parents like to pair the dividers with a small set of matching hangers or a labeled bin system, so the whole closet reads as one coordinated setup. That’s optional. The dividers do the sorting work on their own, and most families use them exactly as they arrive: hung in order, animal by animal, with nothing else added. If you’re shopping for a friend who already has a nursery closet system in place, these drop into whatever’s already there, since the hook fits standard rods without needing new hardware.
