Their name, shaped like the place it belongs.

The silhouette is a mountain range — two peaks, one slightly taller, ridge line descending on both sides. The name sits inside the shape, sized to fill the space without crowding the peaks. It reads as one object: mountain and name together, not a word stuck onto a cutout.

I cut the silhouette and the lettering in the same pass. No separate pieces glued together. The whole sign is one board, one cut.

What I need from you: the name or word to engrave, and your wood choice — walnut (dark, rich grain) or Baltic birch (pale, modern). That’s it.

Two wood choices

Walnut is darker — a deep chocolate-brown with grain that has some movement to it. The laser engraving shows high contrast against the face. Walnut reads warm and substantial. It’s the right choice if you want something that feels grown-up in a room: living room, entryway, master bedroom, cabin.

Baltic birch is pale — nearly cream-colored with a subtle, even grain. Lower laser contrast than walnut, but still clean and legible. Birch reads lighter and more minimal. It’s the right choice for a nursery or a room that’s already warm and doesn’t need more darkness.

Both are ¾-inch thick, same dimensions, same process. The choice is aesthetic, not structural.

The silhouette

The mountain profile is a single design — two peaks with a ridge. I’ve tested this shape across different name lengths and it holds proportions well from short names (four or five letters) to longer ones (ten or eleven letters). For names outside that range, message me first and I’ll mock it up before you order.

The name is centered inside the mountain body, below the peak line. The letter height scales with the name length to keep the engraving from feeling too small inside the shape. I check the proportions manually on each order.

How it’s made

Day 1 — Design and cut. I size the board, lay out the name inside the mountain silhouette, proof the proportions, and run the laser. The silhouette cut and the name engraving happen in sequence. The cut leaves clean edges without burning — I tune the speed for each wood species.

Day 2 — Sanding. The face gets three rounds of sanding. The cut edges get two. I don’t sand the engraved letters — just brush them clean. The edges are smooth enough to touch without catching.

Day 2–3 — Finish. One wipe of natural matte oil. It’s food-safe and VOC-free. Cure time is 24 hours before I package.

Day 3–5 — Package and ship. Kraft paper, bubble-wrap, snug cardboard box. USPS Priority Mail with tracking.

Dimensions and scale

The sign is approximately 14 inches wide and 7 inches tall at the peaks. That’s a comfortable living room or bedroom scale — substantial enough to register on a wall without overwhelming it. The ¾-inch thickness means it sits slightly away from the wall and casts a small shadow, which gives it presence.

If you need a different size — larger for above a fireplace, smaller for a shelf — message me. I can adjust the cut dimensions; the proportions stay the same.

What to put on it

The most common uses: a family last name, a child’s first name for a nursery, a cabin name, a single meaningful word (a place, a surname, a word that means something). Names up to about 12 letters work well at standard size. Very short names (under four letters) or very long names (over 12) need a layout check first — message me.

All capital letters, all lowercase, or title case — I can do any. If you don’t specify, I’ll default to the style that looks best for the specific name. I’ll tell you what I chose when I confirm the order.

Hanging

Sawtooth hanger centered on the back, included. One nail, one level. If you want to use Command strips or your own hardware, note it at checkout and I’ll skip the hanger. The ¾-inch thickness means the sign sits about ¾ inch off the wall — the shadow it casts is part of the look.

Care

Indoor use only. Normal household conditions — no bathrooms, no high-humidity spots. Dust with a dry cloth. No sprays. The matte oil finish doesn’t need reapplication under normal use.

Questions

Message me before ordering if the name is longer than 12 letters, if you want a different size, or if you want all caps or all lowercase rather than the default. Everything else — hanging preference, any notes — goes in the order notes at checkout.
